Get To Know Michael Owen

michaelowen

Out of contract Michael Owen is looking for work and is having a rough go of things. So to convince clubs that the English former star isn’t washed up, his agents have compiled a 32-page report explaining why he’s still worth millions. Among the reasons listed, he’s not only an athlete, but an ‘ambassador’ and an ‘icon.’ There’s even a four page medical review by a doctor explaining that Owen’s injury prone reputation is ‘a nonsense.’ It’s an impressive brochure and I’m sure it won’t keep him from ending up at Hull for a cut-race price, but you have to respect his moxie.

Don’t Talk Smack About Nikoleta Lozanova

Warning: Missing argument 2 for wpdb::prepare(), called in /home/ahrnciar/www.naturalhattrick.com/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/tags.php on line 315 and defined in /home/ahrnciar/www.naturalhattrick.com/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 990

She's good, fellas.

She's good, fellas.

It’s been a bad year for footballers and their Ferraris. But it wasn’t careless driving that led to this sport car’s demise—it was its driver’s motor mouth. Nikoleta Lozanova, Bulgaria’s ‘Playmate of the Year’ in 2006 is currently seeing Bulgarian mob boss Georgi ‘The Head’ Stoilov and is the former girlfriend of Liverpool reserve team keeper Nikolay Mihailov. It seems that Nikolay offended ‘The Head’ by joking to local Bulgarian media that his new girlfriend was a Ferrari and Lozanova was a broke down hoopty. Three days later, his Ferrari suffered an acid attack and the keeper went into hiding. Mihailov, currently on loan at FC Twente, must have picked up a few things from ‘Facts’ Benitez during his time at Liverpool—how to put your foot in your mouth.

Six Isn’t Enough

Six Isn’t Enough

drogbapoint

I would like to the the first to stand up and congratulate UEFA for banning Didier Drogba six matches and Jose Bosingwa four for their antics in Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona. I am a shocked to see that Michael Ballack wasn’t forced to sit some games out as well. Not only do I think the penalties are fair, I feel they should have been harsher and I’m stupefied that Chelsea are now appealing the ban. For that alone, if I were UEFA, I would extend the suspensions to include all group matches the club plays in next season’s Champions League. If UEFA’s respect campaign is to ever have true meaning they need to stand their ground and uphold their decision.

If Drogba and Bosingwa’s suspensions are reduced, or god forbid, retracted, it means open season on the referees. As I wrote at the time, Chelsea’s actions at the end that match were embarrassing and completely disrespectful to the game. If these players go unpunished or are let off with a slap on the wrist, it further diminishes the line between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. What’s going to happen the next time a referee makes an unpopular decision on a controversial play? And as we saw in the Chelsea-Barcelona semi-final, a referee can be faced with a good number of them during the course of a match.

Maybe some people didn’t see Ballack chasing the referee for forty yards or Drogba swearing at the TV cameras as that big of a deal, but I couldn’t disagree more. Aside from the magnitude of these matches, there are tremendous amounts of money riding on these games. The Champions League can generate tens of millions of dollars for the clubs, not to mention the commercial and marketing money that comes with winning it. Careers are on the line, so of course a player or coach is going to show emotion during a match. But they must remember that they must control themselves and that the referee is in charge. The referee must be respected at all times and those who don’t should be severely punished. If they aren’t, the entire game suffers.

Becks Is On The Ropes

He's pant it again.

He's pant it again.

Just when you thought you haven’t seen him in his underwear for a while, David Beckham unveils a new extra-large poster of himself. Even Becks himself admits that seeing himself half-naked and oiled up is ‘a little embarrassing.’ If you’re embarrassed, imagine how we must feel Mr. Goldenballs.

Ronaldo Gets His ‘Dream Move’

Warning: Missing argument 2 for wpdb::prepare(), called in /home/ahrnciar/www.naturalhattrick.com/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/tags.php on line 315 and defined in /home/ahrnciar/www.naturalhattrick.com/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 990
Ronaldo gives the deal a thumbs up.

Ronaldo gives the deal a thumbs up.

It’s a move that’s been two years in the making, and now it’s come true. Cristiano Ronaldo is going to Real Madrid. Manchester United has accepted £80m for the petulant Portugueser, making a nice £67m profit off of the sale of the whining winger (they bought him for £12.2m in 2003). Newly elected Madrid president Florentino Perez has quickly fulfilled his promise of bringing superstars to Madrid by signing Kaka yesterday and Ronaldo today. This shouldn’t come as a surprise considering Perez was in charge during the first Galactico era. Now let’s see if Madrid can get past the first knockout stage of the Champions League.

Kaka’s A Galactico

Kaka makes the move to Spain.

Kaka makes the move to Spain.

The soap opera didn’t last long as Kaka signed with Real Madrid last night. Madrid paid AC Milan £59m for the Brazilian playmaker, surpassing the record transfer fee of £46.7m that Madrid paid to Juventus in 2001 for Zinedine Zidane. Kaka will also wear the #5 shirt that Zidane wore for Los Blancos. Kaka reluctantly left Milan for financial reasons (and after speaking with David Beckham) and most certainly won’t be the last big name player to be moved for such reasons. While Milan is left to ponder who can replace the 2007 FIFA World Player of the Year, Madrid has set their sights on long sought after prize Cristiano Ronaldo.

Who Lifts The Best Cup?

The European season’s over and the trophies have been awarded, but I wondered which one of the ‘top five’ leagues had the best trophy presentation. Watch all five below and let  me know what you think.

Vfl Wolfsburg is unquestionably the most shocking league champion of the season. The little club from the town famous for making Volkswagens, won their first ever Bundesliga title on the last day of the season. While I think the Bundesliga trophy is a little goofy looking, I did like the presentation ceremony.  Rating: 4 Stars

Eva Does Everything

Ain't no mountain too big for Eva.

Ain't no mountain too big for Eva.

We’re stretching it by calling Eva Angelica a WAG, considering her husband, Danny Mountain, hasn’t played professional football since he was 16. But since they’re both porn stars (and we love porn stars) and he still plays football as captain of Vinny Jones’ Hollywood FC, she makes WAG of the Moment.  Before he injured his knee, Danny was at the Southampton academy where he played against the likes of Joe Cole and Gareth Barry. She’s appeared in more than 160 films with such titles as Da Vinci Load and Face Invaders and (of course) has her own website (warning: site contains adult content…she’s a porn star, duh). Looks like that knee injury is the best thing that could’ve happened to old Danny boy.

Mike just can't get rid of Newcastle.

Mike just can't get rid of Newcastle.

After treating the club like a beat-up Ford Taurus, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is attempting to sell it like one. Confirming that the club is for sale on its official website, there is also an e-mail address for interested parties to use. What’s next, an ad on Craigslist?
